Pamela,

I am not really sure if this is quite the place to put this comment in. But it is probably as good as any, one of our many current affairs programme on SBS is called "insight" it features various topics affecting Australia and Australians. They often have audience participation speakers for or against the subject from various industries. Last night it was about the products from China, particularly looking at the Regularity Authority not being proactive enough. Undertaking the mandatory testing of 5% of the imported product and not 100% of the product. For eg. Ergon had their uniforms made in China, the uniforms had been washed before wearing, they had been washed probably 10 times in 3 weeks, they sent the uniforms away for testing because the workers were getting rashes around their necks and back and chest. Some of the workers started to lodge complaints with the company and they received 20 reports. Testing of the Fabric at the University of NSW showed that the Formaldehyde concentration was astromonical I can't recall what it was - but it was enough to make them sick. So it does not really matter how much you wash it - it's not effective enough to get rid of the substance. After that the workers had to wear their own clothes and guess what the rashes disappeared.

I remember I posted some remark to a rep about food products made in China on your site. Well, get a load of this information. The programme also reported the following: The factories in China outsource work to "Ghost Factories" to meet the importers demands of timeliness. So conditions of standards of chemicals and workers conditions are out the Window. So no manufacturer or importer can guarantee that the factory he visited in China actually makes all the product on the premises. If they say they do they are telling a porky.

It was a fascinating program, if I can locate the link - I will forward it on to you.

Marg

Thanks Marge,

This is a perfect place to post it as well as in the Toxic Dangers Board if you want to. You could just open a new topic in there and then copy and paste your post in it. copy and paste it in there.

My hubby Rick said he used to use that in his work back years ago and it is so dangerous that they had to go through all sorts of things to prepare the body before they could use it. They needed to use it to "Fog Clean rooms." (Which is killing all bacteria before filling vials) This was a Bristol Labs in Syracuse , NY where they manufacture medications etc.

So that certainly says a lot about the dangers of it ...........

Pamela this is the link to the show - however, sbs don't allow direct access - so you have to put it into google. http://news.sbs.com.au/insight/episode/index/id/49#watchonline - they also have a full transcript of the show - I could copy it into a document and send it to you if you would like.

Thanks Marge,

I watched the entire program ! It is amazing what these manufacturer's are getting away with. Very scary also !

I am going to post this in the Toxic Dangers board also, unless you already have (I have not looked yet) and then I will copy and file the transcript in my files here at home, so I will have it.

Thanks again, this is great information and although it is geared towards people issues, and Australia, it also applies to pets products there in Aussie and also applies to the US with regards imported products for humans and for our pets..........

PS: I was able to edit the link you gave me here to go directly to the videos. Not sure if that is what you meant by direct access. It is working so far...... See if it works for you now, when you click on it. Should take you right to the videos !

Pamela,

Thankyou for posting it on your site you will always be more computer savvy than I. This is an aside - when we had our little holiday down the South Coast, I went into this Quilt shop. I enquired about a blue quilt in the Window - I wanted to buy it for Oscar (always for Oscar). She told me it was for display only, not for sale. I said to her - do you have any for sale - she said wait a minute. She was conducting a quilting class unbeknownst to me at the back of the shop. I waited for about 1/2 hour. So she eventually came back to the front of the shop and said to me - what size is the baby's bed. I thought to myself do I say this or not.... do I say this is for my dog. What the hell- I'll just say it!! Well, I started, it's for my dog - he is outside with my sister. She went outside to have a look at Oscar - She saw he was a poodle (she had a toy poodle called max - whenever helen and I see a poodle we say poodle alert, poodle alert). She bought out 3, 2 purple and one yellow you could roll up into a pillow - it actually rolled up into it's own pillowcase. I selected one - it cost a fair amount - but I explained to her that I had been searching for sometime and now I have it. It's a good one so it will last. So I am glad I bought this rather the formaldehyde soaked ones.

The whole segment tainted my view of these products - I think it has sent me feral - whilst I was watching it - I thought of you and the melamine they put in dog food. So being a bit of conspiracy theorist - pet food industry is in bed with the veterinary association. Because I think and I know this sounds difficult to swallow - but if there is a melamine build in the dog's kidneys and Peter Dingle or whoever said it crystalises over years they can't flush it out, then they will go into kidney failure and the vet's would know this because they must do toxicology and biochemistry in their veterinary degree.
By the way, are you sleeping better?
Thanks

Marg

I laughed when I read this about the quilt!~ I go through similar thoughts when I go to buy *Huggies diapers* for Lil-Lea and have to ask a question, or when I went to purchase her Hair rubber bands for her at the Hair Store here <G> Questions like, How long is her hair , or how many pounds is she, give me reason to pause and decide if I want to reveal it is a dog.

Glad you got a great quilt for Oscar. Is he enjoying it?

As for the Veterinary and Pet food companies, some of them are clearly in bed together. Hills , for one and now Royal Canin is being seen in the Vets offices, so they must be getting a kick-back as Hills is.
