Let's Talk Pet Foods Post subject: Hi there and welcome Posted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 4:54 pm Cheryl, Welcome........ Hi there. For some reason, I am not getting notified of new posts . Grrrrr. I just stumbled onto your post~ I must apologize. Please forgive There are two of us and apparently neither of us is being told when a new person posts! I have to try to find out what is going on :scratching head: I usually check, but both of us have been either sick or tied up. I do know several people with many Yorkies. Do you need them to contact you ? ...... One of them is a member here and she knows others too. We would love to see photos of yours :)

ch774 Post subject: Posted: Sun Mar 09, 2008 1:50 pm Good Day, Yes I am member of one of your other groups I feel bad because I talk to you one one site and now this one. Well, my question is I have a rescue yorkie he is 3-yrs so says the vet. He has been checked out and he is fine he is a silky. Well the first week of him being with us he was sooooooooooooooo skinny. and He had matts it took me 2-days to bath and brush him. Now he has been going to the groomer and he is a beauty. Well now he is very agressive. I had him nutered last week and the vet says he recomends prozac for him. What do you think? He gets in with my other male Oscar which is a schnauzer. I made the mistake of trying to get in the middle well I'll never do that again. What do you think? Thank You Cheryl

Hi Cheryl and dont' feel bad about posting in more than one place. We all do that. Male dogs who fight are usuallyf ighting over territory, or resources including the resource or females. If you have any females in or near your house that are intact, you cannot trust your boys alone wiht each other. They are not as bad as bitch fights but they can surely do damage and may even kill. You also have the problem of "rescue love" going on. Often when we rescue a dog, they "love us emmencely" and seem to know that we are their rescuer. They may get very protective of you and things that are yours. I would probably do some serious "pack leader" work with him so that he knows he is not the leader and neither is your other male, and he does not have to own you to love you or to show his gratitude for you rescuing him. Maybe some yorkie boot camp is what is needed. I would surely not leave them alone together without crating both of them. I hope this help some. Yvonne

ch774 Post subject: Help Posted: Sun Mar 09, 2008 2:26 pm
Yes, you have helped me I have 2-females (schnauzers) but they are fixed long before he came along. Is to my thought that they fight over my husband coming home. They all go to the door to greet him. well Now I have to get Alphie away and wait till all is low key.
Well, I would love to enroll him in boot camp. Where sould I look?
Funny, Alphie loves me and Jack My puppy yorkie does not fight with him but if anyone comes by me that is another story.
Well to settle any fears I have 5-dogs. 2-yorkies, 3-schnauzers.
Thank You So Much
Cheryl

Boot camp refers to Cesar Milan's way of training people to train the dog. LOL I had to use boot camp for Maimee when she and Mollie started getting into it. A bitch fight can certainly end in death so I had to do something fast. Mollie was aging and Maimee started "moving up" in the pack to replace her. I thought all the time that I was their pack leader and being a trained behaviorist, I really thought I had things under control. well the fighting showed me that they had their own hierarchy and it didn't include me. LOL Maimee was the one i targeted because she was starting the fights and once I had her under control, everyone else straitened up. SHe was placed in "boot camp" meaning she made no decisions on her own. She did not eat, sleep where she wanted, play with toys that she wanted or anything that I didn't tell her to do or give her permission to do. She was placed on a leash and attached to my side. Even though I didn't like some of it, like not allowing her on the furniture or on my bed to sleep, she got the message that I was in the lead and she needs to know that. I frequently would allow her to do something like get up on the sofa and then wait about 10 minutes and put her back off so she knew the only reason she got up there was because I said she could. She then looked to me for cues as to what she could do and what she couldn't do and the fighting immediately ceased. She had no more reason to challenge mollie because neither of them was in charge anyway. I also modified it for Mollie and she occasionally gotr put off the bed or made to wait to eat so she knew too that I was the leader and wasn't goign aroudn sending Maimee bad signals. I hope this helps some as these fights can be horrible. Look to see who eats first, who has the best spot for sleeping and who goes in and out of doors first. Also look to see who is higher physically like who is at the top of the stairs first or on the back of the sofa instead of on the cushions. You will then see who is the leader of your pack. Note that the boys and girls have two separate packs. You need to be the one who eats first, goes through a door or hallway first, goes up the steps first, sits higher one the sofa than anyone else. They all need to know that you are the boss and then they don't have to prove anything to each other. Yvonne
