:Potty break: For some strange reason my 2yr. old female seems to be having nightmares and loses control of her bladder. she doesn't have a UTI or anything she just starts twitching and pees. My boyfriend and I try to wake her up when we see it but we don't ususally catch her in time. Please HELP! :Potty break: Another thing my other fixed female an almost 2yr. old likes to pee in the tub even after you scoop the litter boxes sometimes right after. She also likes to go on anything thats not usually on the foor or this camping chair that they all share. I'm not sure if it's because they had a really bad life before they came to me but I have 4 cats taht are all rescues or ferals. All are fixed the females don't pee in the same spot as the other does and only the females are doing it. PLEASE HELP!
P.S. the boxes are scooped daily so I don't think thats it either, but again unsure.

P.S. the boxes are scooped daily so I don't think thats it either, but again unsure. Many years ago, back in the 90's - I had one who used to do that. She had numerological problems. After I tried and tried, I finally has to have her put down as she was unable to be placed in that condition and I had cut up /removed carpet by the pounds and I just could not do it anymore and have my home stinking. No one wanted her like that.......so I was left with very few choices and was not going to keep waking up with wet bedding! She would pee on anything! This is sometimes this is caused by *spaying* ! I think that if they are NOT declawed, but fixed, the best thing you can do for the is perhaps find the homes out in the country where some one might be willing to take them as outdoor/indoor cats with a *flap* to come and go, and perhaps they might not do that behavior insid. OR......... there are No Kill indoor/Outdoor sanctuaries, in various places around the country who might be willing to take them on and some are specifically for disabled pets. Just some thoughts .....

I really appeaciate the suggestions but I don't think I could ever get rid of her, she's a gorgeous DLH, plus I saved her from certain death and a really bad home. I just never heard of such a thing, do you thing it could be a form of post traumatic stress disorder? She is a very fragile girl. She looks like a 9mon. old kitten. I just hope it's not a sign of a serious medical condition that might not be well know or somehing.I do love her very much though.

It happens sometimes in both dogs and cats. But, it could also be a medical issue or as you say PTS . What does the vet say about it? Have you had her examined for that particular issue?

She was once before she got spayed and all he said was that it wasn't a UTI and there wasn't anything in her urine or blood work, but seemed a little intrigued when I told him she only does it when she seems like she is having a nightmare or starts twitching in her sleep, but wakes right up to stimulation. It's weird go figure, if you hear or think of anything else please let me know.

catfiend Post subject: Re: Fixed Females Peeing On Things Even When They SLEEP! Posted: Sat May 09, 2009 8:48 pm Well I haven't been on in a while haven't been feeling well. I'm still having a slight problem with my girls but my 2 boys have been perfect little angels. My oldest female Nala will pee in the tub if the litterbox hasn't been scooped soon enough that day. She is very spoiled and won't use a used box. She also still has that problem hen she sleeps and doesn't realize she even does it. My youngest female Sylvie has problems when you set anything on the floor she pees on it. My boyfriend set a tote down and went in the other room for not even a minute and she had already peed in it. I love my cats vey much I sa ved them from thier abusers and fixed thier health problems and can't bring myself to get rid of them. I'm so lost and confused.

Let's Talk Pet Foods Post subject: Re: Fixed Females Peeing On Things Even When They SLEEP! Posted: Sat May 09, 2009 11:26 pm Hi, I a am so sorry you are having this issue. I would think that this is now a *habit*, and I have no clue how you can break it.... As for the litter, you might try putting the litter pan in the tub and see if that will help. In my life time of owning cats, I have had three PTS because of this type of behavior. None were mine were mine from babyhood and already had these habits as adults when I got them. I was not willing to live like that and it would not have been fair to pass them off to anyone else with that issue, and so eventually I made the decision to have them PTS.. I think that you could try to purchase a huge cage and put 2 litters pans in it and do not change or clean them for two days or more, and see if you can get her to go in it, when she can't get out to go anywhere else. Something like this: http://www.petedge.com/catalog/product_popup.jsp?entityId=45682&entityType=product&templateType=1 Put two LARGE open pans in there, in the bottom, so there is no room to walk around on the floor and see if you can retrain her. Only let her out of there on a halter and leash for short periods. You may be able to re-train her that way and eventualy be able to let her out, once she gets used to going in used litter.

catfiend Post subject: Re: Fixed Females Peeing On Things Even When They SLEEP! Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 7:11 pm Holy cow I never would of thought of that, that is such a great idea. Im so very sorry to hear that you had to put the other 2 down that is the hardest decision a pet owner has to make. My family has that prob when its an animals time to go, but they don't put thier animals down they suffer until they die. My older sister had a beagle that is 13yrs. old is covered in tumors and has an even bigger one growing out of her neck, it looks like a second head. She can't hold her bladder and can hardly get around and with all my pleading and information and support she won't do it. She already has another dog to replace her, She lives with my mom in a small trailor with a boxer(her new dog),The beagle, my chihuahua that my mom won't give back to me(his eyes are so crusty, bad teeth, nails completely overgrown)and another beagle/basset mix(who either stays outside or in a crate by himself in a shut off room that reeks of dog urine, he never gets socialization). I've tried lightning the load by getting back my chihuahua so I can clean him up and clip his nails so he can walk right, but she won't give. My mother had one dog that we had from a puppy that stayed outside all the time with huge mats and couldn't even see the hair was so overgrown. She left that dog out there with a hige rectal tumor until she woke up one morning and he was dead. He hadn't even seen a vet she just sat there and knowingly let that dog suffer and die. Even with all my attempts to help they just don't get it. Wow I am so sorry for going off about that it just really bothers me and I'm not sure what else to do about them. So anyway I will try that suggestion and let you know my results. Thanks again.
