PwD-SD-Awareness Post subject: What type of Questions are you asked??? Posted: Fri May 09, 2008 2:24 pm Believe it or not I am actually asking a question! I must say I thought about this only because my dog and I was out on one of our public outings. It never occurred to me to ask everybody else until now. OK now that I gotten your attention. What kind of questions are you asked about your animal when out and about! Whether you have a pet animal or a service animal we all get some silly questions! I love this one! "What kind of dog is that?"! I answer depending on which dog at the time I have with he/she is a whatever breed I have! Person: " Oh I have one of those"! This always makes me laugh! There are more that I can come up with but I will let others talk as I could be long winded at times.

Bu t, mostly I get awwwwwwwww, and oh, look *insert person's name* , isn't she adorable! What a cutie and so forth , or they laugh and laugh~
But, she brings a smile to people faces !and that is what I like the most..............

Like Lil they ask how old is she? She is so cute, aww! How much does she weigh? Wow she is soo small! Some are like who does her grooming. Others remark it is great to see a dog that is properly taken care of. Some have asked what kind of dog she is, or what size poodle toy or mini.. duh toy! I had one petsmart groomer, just out of school I imagine, asked how I got Eve's feet so clean(shaven) lol! Some people have asked me where I got her, some ask how much I paid, some asked if I had any puppies. The most recent is about the wrappers in her hair (should post a pic sometime).. they will ask if Im curling her hair, some ask if they are bows lol. I have to explain that they are hair wrappers put in place to protect her and allow it to grow. I dont get any clothes questions or comments because daddy doesnt like her to wear clothes in public. I do get comments about her bag, riding in her bag mostly saying how well behaved and quiet she is and that they didnt even know there was a dog there. One guy did make a fashion accessory comment when she was in her bag but I think it was just his weird sense of humor as we see him often when we shop at the store. He does pet her just not a small dog or poodle guy.. but I think she is winning him over more:). She is now in a continental trim and you should see how many people have run into walls or stopped their cars as they watch her walk by LMAO! Im with Pam, I like the happy faces on people that see her, and I love how much fun Eve gets from all the attention! She thinks everybody is her friend!

I am always amazed at how many people have no idea of poodle sizes. Most think , miniature and I think they think a toy is the size of a tea cup, LOL WRAPPERS! Ummmmmm, you have mentioned them to me before on the list. I am a bit skeptical id Lil-Lea could wear them as she mats so easy when I try to do anything with her hair. I *MUST* comb her ears minimum of every few days (3 or 4 ) or she will have mats hanging form her ears in that short time. I would LOVE To see photos of Eve in those. PLEASE DO, do share Ricks and Lil-Lea's photos with your hubby! Rick is *all man* , trust me, but his heart melts for Lil-Lea in her clothes and diapers, LOL don't dare go out the door with Lil, if he is going with us, without a diaper on her, or he will ask me where it is! When I show up at the hotel, where he works, with Lil, I had better have one on her, LOL (I do anyway, as I don't trust her to not pee) I put her down once when my grand daughter was visiting, and staying at the hotel, and Lil went to run to Daddy, who was coming around a corner and she abruptly squatted to pee along the way, in the lobby, mind you! Thank goodness she had her diaper on! I yelled sharply at her, *LIL-LEA *!!!! and she stopped. I scooped her up quickly, and ran her out to the yard area, where the pool is...... Then, I realized it was a *room Card activated* door opening, (to get back in) , and unless you were staying in one of the pool side rooms that opened to the lawn/pool side, you were locked out, unless you had a room key card! DUH! We were locked out there, LOL Some guest, had to come save us, as I frantically waved, and mouthed the words HELP, I am locked out, through the glass door, as I was the only one out there ! ! ANYWAY, I think Rick loves the attention that he and LIL get when she is in diapers and clothes. He will take her from em and disappear and run all over the hotel and show her off to the maids, maintenance and office staff! LOL So, maybe if your hubby sees his photos and the smiles on his face, he will relent <G> Just ell him it is the same as having a tiny , female little girl , with Daddy being so proud <G>!

PwD-SD-Awareness Post subject: Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 1:54 pm People do always ask how old my dogs are which I do expect them asking! Love though when I tell them know matter what age they always come back with I thought he was pretty young. Or I will get wow she is that old she doesn't look it! That's when I just love to say it's all the good living. I just cannot help myself when they say such things. I would also get boy I wish my dogs would be well behave. This always gives me an opportunity to talk about training and how to be consistent! Gosh I would love it if people would ask if they could pet my dogs more then just coming right up without my knowledge and pet them. I should say though it's like 1 out of 20 that does that. Most people don't but they would rather talk to them.

PwD-SD-Awareness ost subject: Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 2:09 pm Oh I would usually get am I training or is the dog for my needs. This one I love due to the fact that it's a double folded question. LOL. Being I to teach service dogs and it so happens that I am also a partner to a lovely mix boy! Then they are quite amazed in that I tought my own dogs. This is due because people aren't that aware of the fact that people with disibilities can train their own service animal. So it's basically educational. Lets me see one time I was at a church function and this fellow came up to me and ask if this was chinchilla. That just floored me!

It gets on my neves sometimes when they ask if she's a mini. I think you are right they feel a toy poodle should be the size of a "tea cup". PFFT! I have to explain to them that toy poodles are 10" and under.. period. I had one guy argue with me that Eve was a mini! His mother's poodle was way smaller than her blah, blah, and I told him that toys are 10 and under and that some "breeders" will use the "tea cup" and "tiny toy" labels as marketing gimmicks so thay can charge more. He was pretty snotty, otherwise I wouldnt have said much about it lol. Do people ask if Lil is a mini too? Oh, I also had a friend pay 200 for a min-toy poodle, as mom was a mini and dad was a toy *sigh*. She was one of those long backed short legged kind of dogs, but above 10" at the shoulder.. kinda could have passed as a lhasa poo. LOL! Rationally speaking your suggestions should work, but it's like talking to a brick wall! I have shown him picks of Rick and Lil, but nothing! I even told him a real man wears pink and walks dressed up toy poodles, but he still wont change his mind. This is the same guy that would take off any bows or bandanas off his mother's dogs *sigh*. I really like putting Eve's lil purple/white rimmed "attack poodle" t-shirt on that she has had since she was a baby.. that I had to rubber band on her so it wouldnt slip off. A diaper is a requirement on Lil lol? My hubby wont go into Petco with us if she is wearing her diaper, so I take it off. It is only for when she is in season and she is very clean without it while she is moving around. She has had accidents in the store, but only when she is walking around, and usually a miscalculation on my part as to when she needs to go, cause she is pretty good about holding it. It's all that execise that gets her"bowels moving" teehee! The hair wrappers are a way to protect the hair from damage and to optimize hair growth. There are diff ways and materials to use when wrapping hair, just depends on which method a dog does best on. There is the rubber bands where you wrap a band at the tip of the ear below the ear leather, then about every inch or 2 you wrap another below that until you get or just about to the tip end of the hair. I dont care for this on Eve because of the flyaways and static I would have to band it almost every day. Then there are paper and plastic wrappers that are in strips. I use the plastic wraps. You wrap the plastic around the hair and fold it up 2x, then wrap a couple of rubber bands around it, making sure you use a rat tail comb or similar to chack that you dont wrap the ear leather by placing it between the wrapper and ear leather. I do Eve's everyother day as any longer the hair will mat. The hair that mats would be where the wrap and hair meet, if left to long. The rest will be mat free and protected lol, and would be toatally mat free if redone often enough. Another thing is rubber bands will break hair and should be cut off instead of pulled off so to not break hair. Also we pant pet where the wrappers are as it will mat the hair as well, but left alone will protect it. I will post pix as soon as I download them from the camera, so you can see what the hey Im talking about lol. I have colored wraps and bands *G*.

Dont parents teach not to pet without asking? She could be vicious and bite then on the nose! Good thing Eve has such a good temperment, if she were a biter I would get sued even tho its the parents fault for not correcting their child's behavior. Right now since I am growing her show coat and her hair is in wrappers, careless hands can mat up the hair. If I have to demat, I will lose hair! I have started body blocking kids and people if they look like they are going in for a pet. I could care less if they found that rude gloat ! So far so good.

I find that it's the adults more then kids that would come up to us petting or just talking. Most kids seem to say to their parents (if they are old enough) that's a working dog and you shouldn't distract them.
There are a few kids though that would do that but 99% of them they would come up to me and ask permission. Most of the time I would allow it as their reward for asking and if my dog is on his game.
Last week though I couldn't believe that this parent while we were in the grocery store told his kid that he was allowed to go up and pet my dog. I mean don't some parents have a clue! Wasn't upset with the child but more with the parent for teaching his kid something wrong! Can you picture if this kid grows up thinking it's OK to go to any strangers dog and pet. Especially without good temperament!
I did tell that kid you are not suppose to pet my dog he's working! The father wasn't too pleased with me from what I gathered! Oh well that's his issue not mine. I was just looking back into my journals of all my dogs and throughout all their teachings (over 30 years of it) this was only the second person that told their kid it was OK to run up to any of my dogs and pet without asking to boot. You think they (the parents) would be more cautious about animals. But let one of my dogs which they shouldn't jump up, scratch or bite and boy they would be all over us. Again good to have a good temperament which they need to be. However I have seen when dogs due to health issues change their temperament in a moments notice too. So anything could happen to the best of dogs.

So anything could happen to the best of dogs. Yes if a child asks me first then I allow them to pet as a reward. It is a shame that parent was such a moron, and youre right had Murray bit his kid he would have been all over you! What a moron. True a sick or even frightened animal can bite when it otherwise wouldnt, which is why one asks to pet first.. dummies. I would have done what you did, but I would also tell the kid that he should never ever pet a dog without asking for permission first, not every dog is nice.. you could get bit. Then I would have turned to the parent and tell him that it is unwise to tell his child that it is ok to pet a strange dog without permission. My dog has had extensive training, but you wouldnt know that by just looking at him. He could have just started his training, and could have easily been the kind of dog to jump up and scratch or knock over your child when distracted. My dog is working right now and it is dangerous to ME if someone distracts him from his job. LOL it may not have been the case as I dont know your disability but HE didnt need to know that. Just had to see that his decision was seriously erronous and could have turned out badly for his kid lol. *sigh* some people, and it is scary that it is the adults that are your main offenders. I bet you they were kids that were allowed to pet tom, dick, or harry's dog as a child lol!
