Isn't he just BEAUTIFUL!

I so dearly love this turkey. He chirrups to me when I walk into the barn and follows me around like a puppy. He take food from my fingers and gets right up close to me and looks me up and down, like he checking that I am ok.

His name is Gunter. See how pretty his feathers are, he is a bronze turkey.

ADMIN NOTE: Karri told me an interesting story about GUNTER ~~~~~ *HE* is a *SHE*~~~~ and so has been renamed LIANE~
I'll save the story of how she discovered this , for Karrie when she has time to come on and tell it ![/quote]

I love Gunter -- I used to have a bronze tom turkey....He was named Turkey Lurkey because, he well lurked and hid behind bushes and trees and then popped out.

He followed me around and wouldn't let anyone near me ---I was his. I loved that turkey and mourn him still.

Gunter reminded me so much of him -- I especially loved Turk's tail show --whenever he would greet me he'd spread that big tail and strut around me.

Hi Sandy,

Karrie has had a real lot going on at her house, so she has not been on in awhile, but I am sure when she sees this she will post.

Rick and I had two wild turkeys up in New York. We rescued them from the neighbors shooting them. They were running around pooping all over people's lawns and porches and we decided that in order to save them, we had better do something. We lived at the barn then (building into house) and so we had a peacock and chickens and pens, so we trapped them! We named them Samson and Delilah , LOL We kept them until the following spring and then took them way out in the country and released them together at the same time.... They were so stressed from the trip in the cages and all the handling that they dropped so many feathers, they looked bare butt as they ran off together in the woods.... squawking all the way.....

They were really something! But nothing compared to our gorgeous peacock, who wandered onto our property the year before in March! We trapped him too and named him Indy........but that is another story for another time <G>

Pam

I am so sorry for not answering, life on the farm is crazy.
Here is an example of most of my day:

4:30 am to 9:00 am
Get up to Twink's howling to go outside. This means opening 6 crates and jumping back like a 20 year old virgin on a date with Andrew Dice Clay to not get trampled as they stampede their way out the door.
Walk over, start coffee, then nuke the pigs veggies, chop carrots and apple for the horse, chop tomatoes, carrots and apples for the goats.
Turn on computer quick, get a coffee and change loads of wash and let all of the heathens back inside.
Sit down, put medicine drops in Winston's eyes, grab a quick sip of coffee, then immediately chase Rebel off his face as he licks the drops back out of Winston's eyes.
Finally, check email, glance at clock and make a cuppa for David and wake him up, lay his clothes out and then jump in shower, get dressed and ready to go to the barn.
Come back out and chase down one of the girls for whatever she has in her mouth and running for dear life with.
Crate the girls and feed them, crate Fat boy Winston and feed him and then lay out the food for the other dogs.
Grab the barn food and go do the livestock.

Rest of the day, everyday:
Mind you, they have to gathered up first and stalled, then fed.
Muck out stalls, carry the dirty hay and shavings to the dung pile, gather eggs, beat the dang Rooster off me because one of his girls is mad because I stole her egg. Change out all the water containers, sweep the isle and chase the goats back into the barnyard because they just found another escape route out of the barnyard.
Come back inside, let the heathens back out and start housework.
Now I might have some grooming clients and knock them out, start dinner, do dishes, in between all this is laundry, dusting, Glass business paperwork and phone calls and grocery shopping.
I know it sounds like David does nothing, but he does all the other chores, which are a lot also on a small farm, besides his Glass business.
Ok, dishes are done, back to feeding the stock, catching them first from the paddocks. Mind you, goats do not like being rounded up and bounce and jump like superballs to get away from you. Skippy the pig wants to stall with Danny and Kipper the goats, so there is a small debate, I win and he goes to his stall to await dinner.
If the night is cold and windy, I have to straw the stalls, put a large dog jacket on my old goat Hailey, then stall all the stock, water and hay their stalls and meybe get back to the house by 7:30.
Now the dogs have to be fed and let out after their dinner.
Somewhere in all this when I do not have groom clients I do my 10 standards grooming.
By this time I am sleepwalking and completely forgot about any corrospondance if urgent and hit the rack at 8:00 or 8:30 pm.
So, please, please excuse me if I am so late answering.
Life is very busy here on the farm
Oh, Pam, The two old horses went back to their farm and the one passed away, but as luck would have it I got a rescued, retired race horse from W. VA. on the farm now. A 20 year that I have not even had time to try a ride on yet. I have to handle him careful, he is sweet enough and great ground manners, but not used to being cuddled by humans and avoids humans and he has ringbone really bad on the front right pastern.
So..here we go again with :take dog out: healing a horse humans forgot about.

With warm and sincere regards, :take dog out:

I forgot to add, the picture is of Chimookmon getting up from a well deserved dirt/mud roll.
He loves to roll and get dirty. Figures eh? A white horse that loves to roll.

Karri,

He is gorgeous! Bless your heart for taking care of these babies ! Those photos came out just beautiful. Especially the one head shot photo!! I don't know where you find all the energy you have for taking care of all these animals! I get tired just reading about it all, LOL

One of these days, Lil-Lea and I will get out there to visit <G>
